Castletons businesses always make a big effort at Xmas time so it's a great place to find that unusual gift for a loved one (or yourself). Our walk takes in the brilliant Castleton skyline but only one main ascent near the beginning and then you can relax and enjoy. Please let us know if you want to join the meal when you book (£14 set menu).

Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill Date: Sunday 1st April 2012 Meet: Earl Sterndale OS Grid Reference: SK090670 Nearest Postcode: SK17 0BU Distance: 6 miles Start Time: 11:00am
These "sleeping dinosaurs" were out of bounds until access laws changed and still tend to be on routes for full day rather than half day groups but we thought it about time that everyone enjoyed them. We're hoping for some nice weather so bring a picnic to eat on the top of Chrome Hill and don't expect a warm welcome in our Earl Sterndale pub stop when we finish as they are not noted for being especially walker friendly. Never mind. |

Notes:
|
| 1). Many members take out our ten walks option in which case they pay just £39 for 10 Sunday walks either Full Day or Half Day or a mixture of the two. A series is then pre-booked but walks can be rolled forward as long as SEVEN CLEAR DAYS notice is given as for other Spice cancellations. Please tell us whether you want Full/Half/Mixture, start date and any dates to be excluded when you book. This option is now open to Spice members from all Spice groups. |
|
2). We depart on Half Day Walks promptly at 11:00am to allow for the longer journeys some members are making from the further reaches of the East Midlands. The start time for Full Day Walks remains of necessity at 10:30am to ensure that we don't come back in the dark. Unless stated otherwise we leave promptly at the time stated and we do not wait for latecomers under any circumstances, nor can we normally provide meet points for later on the walk as the paths we take may be well away from access points.
|
| 3). Half Day Walks are typically 5-8 miles in length with normally no more than one steep ascent, Full Day Walks may be up to 12 miles in length or sometimes a little more and may have several steep ascents. |
| 4). It is very important that members come properly dressed and equipped for these walks. Stout footwear with ankle support, proper walking boots for preference, waterproofs (ideally both top and bottom) and PLEASE no denim jeans which get horribly uncomfortable when wet. Always bring plenty of fluids, sun block and some snacks and / or lunch as whilst many of our walks include a pub stop it is not always possible to guarentee food will be available. |
| 5). If you have any queries or problems with walk locations or other details after our office has closed for the weekend call the Spice mobile on 077 11 166 480 and / or text if unavailable. |
